Elton John Oscar Viewing Party - 2013

Okay – I didn’t get on Access Hollywood (which landed me a one-year time-out from Gary) and I didn’t get a photo with Elton, but I still had a great time!

Gary, Cyrus and and I arrived at the Elton John Oscar Viewing Party right at start time: 4pm. Before even entering the tent, (if you can call it that) we saw a lot of the cast of Glee (again) and a few others.

entering the event

Soon after entering, I saw the lovely Heidi Klum.

Me: Heidi! I'm sure you don't remember me, but we discussed Gwyneth Paltrow's Oscar singing a few years ago here.
Heidi: That was weird, right?
Me: Right. And I have a great photo of you, me and Victoria Beckham from the year before.
Heidi: Oh! Is she here tonight?
Me: I don't know. She didn't call me.

I said hello to John Waters but didn't bother him for a photo. I didn't bother to say hello to Jim Carrey 'cuz he didn't seem at all approachable and I really don't like him. (And I was sober).

Me with Gary's friend, Gary and Cyrus
When I spotted Rachel Griffiths (Muriel's Wedding, Six Feet Under, Brothers & Sisters) -  I stopped dead in my tracks. I hadn't seen her since the Emmys in ... 2005 (?) when she made me spit out my nicotine lozenge and sit on the floor for a time-out (I get a lot of those, huh?) before posing for a photo. So I approached with caution.

She posed and was nice enough after hiding her cigarette. I wanted to remind her of our first encounter, but honestly - the woman scares me. And I use the term 'woman' very loosely.

Gary had a nice chat with Emeli Sande - who later performed. A week prior, I had no idea who she was, but had since downloaded her music and am now a fan. And she seemed very sweet.

Presenting ... people filling out their Oscar ballots and getting their drink on!

I got seriously lost trying to find my table - which was great, 'cuz I 'accidentally' walked by Elton's table (it's always in the same place) and every other table in the room!

Table 45 was very close to our table. And if you look closely, you'll see Anna Paqiun, Stephen Moyer (True Blood) and Jane Seymour - and maybe some other celebs. I saw Ryan Kwanten (True Blood) earlier, but I'd met and was photographed with him before so I didn't bother. (I'm so jaded - ha!)

Stephen Moyer

LOVE me some Jennifer Coolidge! (American Pie, Legally Blonde) - she was so down-to-earth. I asked her how she stays looking so great. I have a note in my iPhone with dermatologists and doctors - ha!

Me: I live in Chicago
Jennifer: Oh, honey! You got to come here for good work!

Bono!

Ian Somerhalder (Lost, Vampire Diaries) was another I stumbled upon (not literally, sadly) when trying to find table 52.

He obviously had me under some sort of some vampire spell 'cuz I was almost speechless, even though I stopped watching the show a while ago.

Mena Suvari (American Beauty, American Pie) looked great!

Elton makes the rounds, talking to Glee's Chris Colfer.

Me: Hi!
Chris: Hey!
Me: I'm so embarrassed about that video I took two years ago. (See last blog entry. No, don't. Okay, go for it. NO! Please don't!)
Chris: I'm not sure what you're talking about but you look familiar.
Me: Oh, good!

Even Peters (American Horror Story) was one of the nicest people I spoke with that night. After gushing, I asked him if he was going to be on season three - he said yes. (YAY!) He also said that Jessica Lange is awesome (agreed).

Me: I have a question about season two - why did they throw in that whole alien storyline?
Even: I don't know - it wasn't necessary was it?
Paul: Not at all.

Meredith Vieira and Al Roker interviewing Eric McCormack (Will & Grace)

Speaking of Meredith Vieira ... I spotted her, and started to follow her. There was a young-ish guy behind her - I was so pleased my amazing memory kicked into high gear!

Me: Hey! I remember when you were just a kid, your mom had you on The View
Guy: I'm sorry?
Me: Meredith. Your mom.
Guy: That's not my mom.
Me:

Since there wasn't a hole nearby to crawl into, I had a nice talk with Meredith (she's awesome) and I had whoever that guy who wasn't her son take our photo.

I heart her!

I didn't even bother talking to Jane Lynch - didn't like her when I met her two years ago, and quite frankly she's lucky I included her here. Ha!
I saw Naomi Campbell (looking gorgeous) on her way out - also 99% sure I saw Nicki Mijaj as well, but I didn't take the camera out soon enough. (Did I mentioned there was an open bar? All night. Long.)

Andrew Rannells (The New Normal, Girls) was really nice. And I told him how obsessed I am with The Book of Mormon ... well, 'cuz I know he cares ;-)

Christa B. Allen (Revenge) was adorable and sweet. I told her I loved her (as the young version of Jennifer Garner's character) in 30 Going on 30. She said she liked being on Revenge, but that she wants to get back to films.

The Blind Side's Quinton Aaron seemed like a gentle giant. When I told Gary I met him, he insisted he was dead.
Me: He can't be dead.
Gary: He is! He was in the memoriam during the Oscars!
Me: Well he was alive five minutes ago!
Gary: HE'S DEAD!
Paul: I know I've had a few drinks, but honestly, he seemed very much alive.
After I showed him the photo, he said, "Oh. That's a different guy."
Matthew Morrison (Glee) is always there, always approachable and seems like a really good guy. I don't know how can tolerate working with a bitch like Jane Lynch.
Jacob Artist - Glee

Dustin Lance Black, who won an Oscar for Best Original Screenplay for Milk a few years ago was really cool. I like him even more 'cuz he was involved in some sex scandal that I am too lazy/tired to Google ...
Lance Bass - there every year like clockwork
Kelly Osbourne remembered that I found her cell phone a few years ago at the party - and returned it without selling it to E! or Perez Hilton - after I reminded her, of course. She hugged and thanked me, so I have no choice but to love her forever!

Miley Cyrus was a LOT more personable than a few years ago - and quite frankly, I thought she looked amazing. I still don't know or care what the hell she sings, however.

I was taking the photo 'cuz I love Finola Hughes - I had no idea who Sofia Milos was. (CSI: Miami, apparently!)
Me: Loved you on How Do I Look? and I'm glad you're back on General Hospital.
Finola: Thank you.
Me: Is Genie Francis nice?
Finola: SO nice!
Me: Oh good! I just love her. I mean I think you're great too, but I love her!
Finola: She's great and so is Tony.
Me: Oh, good. Now Kimberly needs to get back to GH so they can wrap up that Robin storyline!
Finola: Oh, I know, right?
And speaking of soap stars ... Levan Rambin (All My Children, Grey's Anatomy) was really nice.

Me: Have you been in anything since All My Children?
Levin: The Hunger Games
Me: I saw that - I don't remember seeing you.
Levin: Oh. Well, I didn't have a huge part.
Me: I have a bad memory and a short attention span.

Later, I saw her with Steven Tyler, so of course I had to bud into the conversation:

Steven: Levin, you're totally getting pregnant tonight!
Levin: (walking away)
Me: That was weird.
Levin: I know. Kind of gross.

I'd had a few (dozen)  vodka-whatevers in me by now, so I don't exactly remember what I said to Steven Tyler, but Levin took these photos:
Was Steven telling me I would get pregnant that night? I don't remember. Only the Grey Goose knows for sure.

Blame it on the Goose, mother f*cker!

Nicole Richie
and then ...

Cyrus claimed he spotted Britney Spears, but I was skeptical.
Cyrus: Her hair is dark.

Britney Spears, y'all! (I don't think she was there for more than five minutes).
Cody Longo (Hollywood Heights - Nickelodeon) remembered me from a few years ago. He and I talked for a while and he's really nice. And no, I don't watch Nickelodeon and I haven't seen his show, but I'm saying I'm not going to. So there!
Oink oink!

On the way to the port-a-potty, I saw Peter Facinelli. I knew I knew him from somewhere (my CRS/can't remember shit) had kicked in again.
Me: Hi! Were you on One Tree Hill?
Peter: No.
Me: Well I'm a big fan - I just can't place you.
Peter:
Me: Wait! You're on Nurse Jackie!
Peter: Yes I am.
Me: And the Twilight movies!
Peter: Yep.

Awkward.
So on the topic of One Tree Hill, I KNEW Chad Michael Murray was on it. (Lucas Scott!) And he was really nice. He even took this photo. He wanted me to, but I assured him that his arms were longer than mine.

And I'm not proud of the next few story/photos.

I exited the aforementioned port-a-potty, and popped my umteenth nicotine lozenge.
Guy: What did you just take?
Me: Huh?
Guy: That pill! What is it?
Me: Oh, it's a nicotine lozenge. I quit smoking years ago but I'm addicted to these.
Guy: I smoke.
Me: I see that!
Guy: Spit it out and have a cigarette.
Me: Um ... okay.
I do NOT endorse smoking. It's gross and it kills! Again, blame it on the Goose!
Me: Hey, who's your friend?
Guy: Seriously? That's Chris Brown!
Me: The one who beats and dates Rihanna??? (I didn't really say that).

Rihanna's main man - Chris Brown
Now I don't like Chris Brown (although I do like one of his songs) but he was ridiculously personable and accessible. (But unlike Kelly Osbourne, I will not love him forever - not even a little!)

Until next year!!! (???)
